Gökay Atabek (TR) is a disaster artist, researcher, art-worker and educator based in The Hague. A graduate of the ArtScience Interfaculty, his work focuses on meta-media explorations and human-machine interactions.
He is the initiator of Vølksamt! Kultur Manufaktur, an intermedia art and experimental music entity that treats organization itself as an aesthetical and conceptual problem. Within Vølksamt!, Atabek is the legal representative, lead engineer, accountant, webmaster, and production manager— out of necessity more than versatility.
Atabek’s work begins where artistic ambition collides with practical obligation. He is interested in how things function when no one is watching; systems, tools, agreements, workflows. His projects span installations, performances, publishing, electronics, and what could be best described as 'geniune imitations' executed with industrial in-precision. His practice rejects end products and instead unfolds through maintenance, logistics, and infrastructural stubbornness. He is currently based at the artist-run space de Besturing, where artistic production is sustained through volunteer labor and shared responsibility.
Additionally he works at the Electronics Workshop at the Royal Conservatory in the Hague, teaching electronics, manufacturing, and soldering. Start with 350C!
